THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN OKADIGBO MACE THEFT AND RECENT MACE THEFT BY UNKNOWN THUGS
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHUBA OKADIGBO MACE THEFT AND RECENT MACE THEFT BY UNKNOWN THUGS
The mace of the Nigerian Senate that was stolen yesterday April 18th has been found under the flyover by the Abuja city gate.
The police in a statement signed by the deputy force public relations officer force headquarters, Aremu Adeniran, said a patriotic Nigerian found the mace and alerted officers who retrieved it.
The thugs invaded the chamber and made away with the mace shortly after suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, entered the chamber.
Mr Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, was suspended last week for alleging that his colleagues were against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election plans.
He has since denied any role in the scandal, while the police early on Thursday said the mace had been found.
Wednesday’s incident was not the first time the Senate would temporarily lose its mace
This missing mace story reminded me of the time late Oyi of Oyi, Chuba Okadigbo was the Senate president and he snatched the mace to prevent his removal from office.
There was an attempt to impeach the then colourful Senate president and before one could say, Jack Robinson, Okadigbo has mobilized his people who went to steal the senate’s symbol of authority.
The mace was taken to the famous Ogbunike cave for protection by the gods.
Chuba Okadigbo boasted that the mace is being guarded by the sacred python at Ogbunike cave so whoever it is that had the spiritual power should come and pick the mace from the sacred python guarding it.
The issue was eventually resolved for Okadigbo to return the mace before he was eventually impeached when he was off guard and not expecting it.
This afternoon the same mace was seized by Senator Omo Agege and his gang.
Apparently, some of us are too young to remember this Okadigbo’s history with the mace.
History has a way of repeating itself, first as a tragedy, second as farce.
