Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Wednesday, said there are 207, 818 inadequate skilled and unqualified teachers in schools across Nigeria.
TRCN Registrar, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye said this in a paper which was presented to recognise 2017 World Teachers’ Day in Abuja.
Ajiboye stated: “There are 207, 818 untrained and incapable teachers in the elementary schools.
The North East zone has the most astounding figure of 57.7 percent. Without a doubt, the circumstance worsened with the intrusion of insurgents, with 611 Teachers been killed since 2009.
An investigation did by the organization in 2014 demonstrated that 1,300 out of 1,599 teachers fizzled arithmetic and basic literacy tests, scoring less than 25 percent.
“Enhancing Teachers’ welfare packages and standard payment of salaries and remittances will help in improving teachers activity exhibitions, productivity and occupation fulfilment.
Teachers Professional Development ought to be brought with all reality in order to develop teachers’ ability and improve students learning,” Ajiboye said.
He said the office has enlisted and guaranteed more than 1.8 million teachers since the inception of the Chamber.
North East has 57.7 percent of the aggregate figure as a result of the exercises of Boko Haram in the area.
The North West has 46.8 percent.
