I Would Like To Play In South Africa’s League – Michael Essien

Ghana Midfielder Michael Essien Speaks On Retirement Plans

Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has not ruled out a possible move to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), stating anything can happen in football.

Having enjoyed success in Europe with English Premier League (EPL) side Chelsea, the Black Stars legend is currently contracted to Sabail FK in Azerbaijan and has praised the South African top tier.

South Africa is not bad, I would like to come here. You can never say never, I am keeping my options open,” Essien told the South African media at a Budweiser event.

The 36-year-old midfielder is in South Africa as the global ambassador of Budweiser in their new partnership with the English Premier League and Spanish LaLiga.

Although he may be close to retirement, the hard-tackling midfielder has confirmed he is keeping his options open.

I love football, I love football…I have played it my whole life. So, I am not thinking about retirement at all (for now), he added.

Moreover, Essien shared his thoughts on Bafana Bafana who are set to face the Black Stars in the opening round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.

He expressed the 1996 African champions must improve on exporting players to overseas-based leagues, but believes they did well at Afcon 2019 where they beat hosts Egypt.

“I don’t know [why South Africa hasn’t exported many players]. In football you can’t really explain what’s going wrong,” he continued.

“On a personal level, I think they have to just keep pushing and working hard. Take their chances and see what happens,” noted the former Real Madrid player.

“However, I think they did well because they beat Egypt,” he concluded.

Should Essien consider a move to the PSL, he will follow the likes of Kaizer Chiefs’ recent signing James Kotei and national team goalkeeper Richard Ofori of Maritzburg United.

RECAP: Man City Thrashes Chelsea 6-0

Chelsea Uncontrollable Tears Of Defeat By Man City To Remember

Sergio Aguero grabbed a hat-trick as Manchester City scored four times inside 25 minutes to thrash Chelsea 6-0 and leapfrog Liverpool again to top spot in the Premier League on goal difference on Sunday.

Aguero should have had even more than three as the Argentine missed a glorious early chance and hit the bar in the second-half in a humiliating afternoon for Maurizio Sarri’s men.

Raheem Sterling started and ended the scoring and Ilkay Gundogan also netted in the first quarter of the game as City ended what could have been a testing week with a trip to Everton in between the visits of Arsenal and Chelsea with maximum points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men maintain the advantage of a game in hand, but handed a reprieve by Liverpool’s draws against Leicester and West Ham in recent weeks, City looks determined to become the first side in a decade to retain the Premier League.

Chelsea on the other hand slip to sixth with the scale of the defeat sure to raise further doubts over Sarri’s future. A 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth in their last away game was Chelsea’s heaviest league defeat since 1996.

And this was their worst loss in any competition since 1991 after failing to recover from Sterling’s fourth-minute opener. Eden Hazard went to sleep from Kevin de Bruyne’s quickly taken free-kick and Bernardo Silva had acres of space to cross for the England international to fire home.

Pep Guardiola had described this match as a “final” for his side given that Chelsea had a week to prepare, while City ground out a 2-0 win at Everton on Wednesday. Guardiola fell to the floor in exasperation when Aguero somehow side-footed wide with his easiest chance of the game moments later.

But the Catalan coach need not have worried that would prove a costly miss as Aguero made amends in stunning fashion by blasting into the top corner from 25 yards to double City’s after just 13 minutes.

Aguero had a simple task to make it 3-0 six minutes later when he pounced on Ross Barkley’s slack header towards his own goal. And Gundogan’s shot from the edge of the area then had too much power for the world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to compound Chelsea’s woes.

Such was the defensive collapse at the other end, Gonzalo Higuain had little chance to shine but the Argentine striker was unfortunate not to score his third goal in as many league starts for Chelsea when Ederson turned over his dipping volley five minutes before the break.

Chelsea Uncontrollable Tears Of Defeat By Man City To Remember :That was as much of a response as Chelsea mustered, though, and it only got worse for Sarri’s chances of keeping his job in the second period.

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey to join Juventus next season

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Italian champions Juventus as a free agent at the end of the season.

Wales international Ramsey has made more than 250 Premier League appearances since joining Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008, but he has failed to agree on a new deal with the London club in the final year of his contract.

The impasse has enabled the 28-year-old to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs since January 1.

According to reports, Ramsey will earn over £400,000 ($A730,000) a week, making him the highest-earning British player ever based on basic salary.

Ramsey has made 22 league appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring twice, including a fine strike against Fulham in October that was regarded by many as an early contender for goal of the season.

The contract will be effective as of July 1 and will expire on June 30, 2023, Juventus confirmed in a statement.

Top Clubs Rejects Third Contract Offer From PSG, Target Adrien Rabiot – Barcelona, Man City, and Liverpool have rejected a third contract offer from PSG.

Eden Hazard Should Be Used To Help Keep Wantaway Willian

Eden Hazard Should Be Used To Help Keep Wantaway Willian

Eden Hazard should be used by Chelsea in other to keep Wantaway Willian.

There are some players who are easily taken for granted in a game dominated by superstar signings and players. Chelsea’s Willian falls into this category.

Linked with moves to Manchester United and Barcelona, William’s future at The Bridge looks uncertain. However, with Chelsea braced for an assault on the services of Eden Hazard, should they really be trying to keep their talented Brazilian?

BLOSSOMED

Willian has come in to his own during the last three seasons. His quick feet, clever movement and tenacious approach have seen him become one of the most creative players in the Premier League.

Involved in 63 goals in the past three seasons, Willian’s importance for Chelsea is huge. And yet, he has been denied a regular starting berth during the past couple of seasons. Such is the strength of Chelsea’s squad, a player with the skill and experience of Willian has been left to watch from the sidelines.

Perhaps this is playing on his mind as Barcelona are reportedly circling. Surely though Chelsea would be foolish to let him go to a rival club. The Hazard situation is currently ongoing and the London club would be wise to try and keep at least one if their creative players.

BENCH TO BENCH

Willian is a quality player, with the ability to walk into most sides. His ability to turn a game with a moment of brilliance has clearly not gone unnoticed. Neither has his unhappiness at sitting on the bench for key games.

Barcelona’s interest is serious, with the Catalan club making a number of approaches for his signature. The Spanish Champions are in need of reinforcements this summer and will have an eye on the Champions League next season, given their dismal exit to Roma and Real’s recent dominance.

However, given the recent signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool for outrageous money, it is clear who currently occupies the starting birth in that position. Willian will be all to aware of the Coutinho’s quality and this may make him wary of a move to Barcelona even with it’s riches and temptations.

WORLDCUP 2018: Lionel Messi Reveals How A Red Tie Brought him Luck

He clearly wants to be the main man in the attacking build of a team, he is not getting this at Chelsea presently, so it would be odd for him to move to Barca, without at least some guarantees of a pivotal role in the La Liga outfit. It would be a waste for him to swap one dugout for another and surely at this stage of his career, it would make more sense for him to be playing regularly.

Manchester United are also credited with real interest and Mourinho knows the player from his Chelsea days. However, looking at players like Mata and Rashford, who have struggled for game time in United’s robust approach, it would be unclear if Willian would get the game he so wants.

SHOES TO FILL

Eden Hazard has reached a new level this season. His performances for club and country have been exemplary. The Belgian is the galvanising force in any team he plays in.

With Champions League football absent from The Bridge, Hazard may be easier to snare away. He would certainly suit Barcelona’s style. In fact he would suit any team such is his quality.

If Hazard does go this summer, he will leave one hell of a void in the Chelsea Midfield. One which they cannot seriously contemplate a new season without plugging. In Willian, they have a player who could step up.

He is already a veteran of two Premier League title winning campaigns, and has played in two World Cups and always cuts a composed figure on the ball. He could step up alongside Jorginho this season to be the key player for Chelsea.

It seems unlikely at this stage that Hazard and Willian will both be allowed to leave the club. With less than three weeks to go of the transfer window, Chelsea will not want to be left high and dry and short of options.

The club could look to sell this situation to the Brazilian in the hope of convincing him to stay and continue his good work at Chelsea. If he is allowed to go, for sure it will be to the benefit of whoever wins the race to sign him.
